Micro Credit and Income Generation Programme (IGP)
Empowering Women and Strengthening Rural Livelihoods
In the heart of rural Tamil Nadu, where economic challenges often hinder educational and personal growth, The Sivakasi Don Bosco Society, through Don Bosco Vidivelli, Kalavasal, is creating meaningful opportunities for women to break the cycle of poverty. In collaboration with the Colourful Children Foundation and The Trichy Don Bosco Society, the Micro-Enterprising Programme is empowering underserved women with accessible micro-credit, enabling them to launch or expand small businesses and gain financial independence.
This initiative directly addresses two critical concerns: economic hardship and educational discontinuity. By equipping women with the means to earn a livelihood, the programme helps them support their families more effectively—especially ensuring continued education for their children, many of whom are enrolled in Supplementary Education Centres operated by Don Bosco Vidivelli.
Since its inception, the Micro-Enterprising Programme has transformed the lives of hundreds of rural women. Unlike formal financial institutions that demand collateral and complex paperwork, this initiative is rooted in inclusivity and trust.

It specifically reaches out to women excluded from traditional banking systems, offering micro-loans for ventures such as:
- Purchasing seeds and fertilizers for small-scale farming,
- Opening petty shops or market stalls,
- Starting service-based businesses like tailoring, food preparation, and beauty services.
By providing this vital financial support, The Sivakasi Don Bosco Society not only boosts individual and household income, but also stimulates the local economy and community resilience. Many of the women beneficiaries emerge as respected figures in their villages—embodying strength, leadership, and determination.
Each entrepreneurial success story becomes a source of inspiration, fueling broader social and economic progress across the region. With every new enterprise, the programme builds toward a future where women are self-reliant, families are secure, and children are given the opportunity to thrive.
Through its Micro-Enterprising Programme, The Sivakasi Don Bosco Society remains steadfast in its mission to uplift rural women, foster sustainable development, and nurture brighter futures for communities in and around Kalavasal.
