BEAUTICIAN SKILL TRAINING PROGRAMME
In the journey toward women’s empowerment and economic self-reliance, access to skill development remains a powerful catalyst for transformation. At the forefront of this movement is The Sivakasi Don Bosco Society, which, through its dynamic rural centre Don Bosco Vidivelli, Kalavasal, is equipping women with the tools they need to create brighter, independent futures. With generous support from the Desai Foundation Trust and SPS India Foundation, the centre has launched a comprehensive Beautician Skill Training Programme aimed at uplifting women in underserved communities.
This programme is thoughtfully designed to meet the aspirations and realities of rural women by offering specialized training in beauty and personal care. It goes far beyond teaching basic grooming techniques—focusing instead on professional-level skills that open doors to entrepreneurship, employment, and enhanced self-confidence. Conducted at the Kalavasal centre, the training takes place in a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment where women can learn, grow, and redefine their futures.
Participants are trained in a wide spectrum of beauty services, including hair care, skincare, makeup application, threading, waxing, and bridal grooming. The curriculum also integrates lessons on hygiene, client management, basic business practices, and customer service—ensuring that graduates of the programme are not only technically proficient but also prepared to engage professionally with clients and manage their own enterprises.

The impact of this training extends well beyond personal skills. For many women, especially those with limited education or from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, the beautician course offers a tangible and immediate pathway to financial independence. Whether they choose to work from home, set up a small salon, or provide freelance services in their communities, the income generated allows them to contribute meaningfully to their households, invest in their children’s education, and improve their standard of living.
Furthermore, the programme serves as a platform for personal empowerment. As women learn to master new skills and interact with others, they gain confidence, develop leadership qualities, and begin to see themselves as capable contributors to both their families and their communities. The camaraderie built during training sessions fosters solidarity and mutual support, creating a ripple effect of encouragement and ambition across the villages.
This initiative also reflects Don Bosco Vidivelli’s broader commitment to sustainable development, gender equity, and grassroots empowerment. By investing in skill training tailored to local needs and aspirations, the centre not only addresses unemployment but also challenges traditional gender roles and paves the way for a more inclusive rural economy.
Through the Beautician Skill Training Programme, The Sivakasi Don Bosco Society continues to nurture dreams, build skills, and uplift lives—one woman, one skill, one empowered story at a time. It is yet another example of how strategic collaboration and compassionate outreach can lead to enduring change, giving women the tools they need not just to survive, but to thrive.
