SEWING SKILL PROGRAM
Stitching Paths to Empowerment
With a vision rooted in empowerment and sustainable development, The Sivakasi Don Bosco Society, through Don Bosco Vidivelli, Kalavasal, is championing women’s progress by offering skill-based education that transforms lives. In collaboration with the Desai Foundation Trust and SPS India Foundation, the Society is implementing the Sewing Skill Training Programme—a powerful initiative that equips rural women with the tools to build confident, self-reliant futures.
Conducted across Kalavasal and surrounding villages, this programme is more than a vocational course. It serves as a gateway to dignity, independence, and long-term economic stability. Through hands-on, community-based training, women learn valuable sewing and tailoring skills that empower them to start home-based businesses, contribute to family income, and gain a renewed sense of self-worth.
Each training centre is thoughtfully designed to meet the specific needs of its local participants, ensuring that every woman receives personalized attention, essential resources, and moral support. As a result, many women are successfully turning their newfound skills into sustainable livelihoods—stepping confidently into roles as entrepreneurs and community contributors.
This initiative has ignited hope across villages, providing women with the confidence to shape their own futures and inspire others around them. Beyond stitching fabric, they are stitching stronger communities—where self-reliance, economic participation, and personal empowerment go hand in hand.
Through this programme, The Sivakasi Don Bosco Society continues its mission to uplift the underserved, strengthen families, and enhance the social fabric of rural Tamil Nadu. By investing in women’s potential, the Society is paving the way for lasting, inclusive change—one stitch, one story, one empowered woman at a time.
